AP Creator of the Month, May 2019 : BoringKate
Welcome to AP Spotlight. Every month, we’ll pick an AP Creator of the Month and interview them, and they send us a little video intro with some quick tips for other AP Creators.
For May, our AP Creator of the Month is BoringKate. She’s been with AP for a few years now and consistently makes great content, great sales, and has a very strong and devoted fanbase. In her interview below and her supplemental video, she shares some great tips for other creators.
How’d you get started making adult content?
I’ve just always loved porn and dreamed of getting to be a porno girl. Then when the girl thing happened I figured I’d do the porn thing too.
How long have you been making content?
I did my first cam show in November 2014. So almost five years ago. I didn’t release the first of the scenes I’ve got out now till september 2015 though and I didn’t get really serious about making clips till I was able to move out a couple years ago and start supporting myself doing it.
What inspires your content?
I mostly just make the kinda smut that I’d wanna watch. With a decent amount of consideration for what I’d be comfortable doing on camera and what I can afford to do.
What’s your favorite content you’ve ever made?
The Chastity Challenge was a neat one that I did recently. I locked myself in chastity and then let people on twitter make me stay locked up by retweeting me or sending me gift cards. It ended up going on for almost a week and I recorded stuff almost every day. It was frustrating, but in a really fun way. And even after editing it down pretty heavily it still ended up being the longest scene I’ve ever done. I also really like Kitty Kate and the Tenga Sleeve (that’s all one title) and She’s In Heat. They were the first things I shot after getting my own place and I feel like they hold up really well.
How do you promote your brand, and what’s the most successful method(s) for you?
I’m just extremely online. I spend way too much time on twitter.
What’s your trick to balancing your daily life?
I only put out a scene a month. Which is an easy enough pace to keep up without getting burnt out. And I even usually have a backlog of unreleased scenes done so I don’t feel too pressured to shoot or edit stuff when I’m not feeling up to it. I’m still not sure how great a balance I’ve got going though. Like I said I’m extremely online and I don’t have any separation between my work life and personal life.
If you could give a new creator advice, what would it be?
Just try to be yourself. And try to actually do the work. A lot of people get stuck thinking about doing porn and wanting to do porn without ever taking that first step and actually making and releasing something.
If you make customs – what’s the weirdest request and did you do it?
I don’t really do customs.
How do you film? Any special lighting equipment/camera? Feel free to share some of your tips
I just use my phone on a tripod. Or a few phones on tripods actually. I usually even just use the front cameras (despite it being lower quality) because it makes it easier to see what I’m recording. I finally got some nice soft boxes this year, but I still usually shoot without them because I’m lucky enough to get lots of natural light in my place so just shooting during the day while the sun is out gets better results than any soft box lighting setup ever could.
What do you like about using AP as a platform?
I obviously appreciate that AP takes a smaller cut than any other clip site I know of. Their video uploader is also really good and will resume interrupted uploads so that you don’t end up spending days trying and failing to upload things like you do on some other sites.
Has your brand evolved since you started? If so, how?
I don’t think I’ve changed too much. I’m just a little more popular now. And my hair is a little bit less ridiculously long.
What are you watching on Netflix right now?
Riverdale is always fun. Neither of these two are on Netflix, but I’m liking Now Apocalypse and I’m really excited for the second season of Pose.
What’s a meme to describe yourself?
Those ones that are like “I Got This $8.99 Choker From Forever 21 And Now I Can’t Stop Doing Anal”
You’re into anime, video games, and comics. Any favorites you want to share?
Is Bible Black acceptable as a favourite anime? My favourite video games are Tony hawk Pro Skater 2, Star Wars Episode One Racer, and (just so I don’t sound like I haven’t played a anything since I was a kid and because inviting girls over to play it has gotten me laid so many times) Smash Bros Ultimate. As for comic books, I absolutely adored Rachel Pollack’s run of the Doom Patrol and I’m so hopeful that Coagula (the super powered robot fucking trans lesbian sex worker that she introduced and had join the team while she was writing it) will show up in some future season of the new show.
Do you have any advice for fellow trans performers when it comes to clip sales and online marketing?
You could flash your tits in line at an anime convention and then reassure the security guard that it’s okay because you’re a boy. Maybe. That’s probably actually a bad idea. It worked for Bailey Jay though.
How did you come up with your stage name?
I started going by BoringKate because my name is Kate and all I ever posted were boring unlewd face pics (and now I do porn with the same name).
